Agromin Donates Compost to UC Merced Guayule Plant Study

Compost plot UC Merced website

Agromin recently donated 40 pounds of compost to a UC Merced grad school study. The compost is being used as part of a field study evaluating sustainable soil amendments for guayule, a desert shrub native to the Chihuahuan Desert of northern Mexico and the southwestern United States that produces natural rubber in its stems and roots.

The goal of the study is to understand whether a carbon-rich organic amendment can support plant growth and improve rubber yield compared to unamended plants. This research contributes to more sustainable, drought-resistant, locally adapted agricultural practices in California’s arid growing regions while advancing our understanding of how to better cultivate this remarkable crop.

Good luck to the grad students working on this important project!
